MADD which stands for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, an organization that was started in 1980 by Candace Lightner after the tragic death of her daughters, Cari at the age of 13. After learning the person responsible for her daughter's death was a repeat offender who was driving on a revoked license. The driver was a repeat offender with five offences in 4 years. She also learned that most states didn't have uniform standards in place to deal with drunk drivers.

Thanks to the attention and awareness from MADD states have been more proactive in changing the laws to prevent the innocent victims. These are just some of the changes that have been made since MADD started.

Since the time that MADD started all 50 states now have several laws the same when it comes to dealing with impaired drivers.

€ All 50 states have risen their legal drinking age to 21. It used to be some states had drinking age at 18; some didn't have any at all. Now they're all uniformed in drinking age.
€ All the states have a zero tolerance for any driver under the age of 21 that operates a vehicle while drinking
