Tourism in Colorado Springs: At the Top of the World in the Garden of the Gods

The tourist places in Colorado are many. We have the Cog Railroad, in Manitou, the Flying W Ranch in Colorado Springs, the Rocky Mountains, all of our beautiful ski resorts in Aspen, Monarch, and Vail. We have the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, the Seven Falls, Cave of the Winds, and the fun in Cripple Creek. The truth is I could go on and on and on. Which is why it is astounding to nudge travelers to one particular place as the best, but as a native to Colorado Springs, I feel that I can safely say the Garden of the Gods Park is a tourist attraction nobody should skip.

My boys and I spent last weekend following the rocky trails, and enjoying the glorious sights. Beautiful, enormous red rocks, towering above and meeting the bright blue sky, holding one captive in its heavenly embrace. It truly feels like a part of another world. The natives of this city have named certain rocks for the shape they hold. For instance, we have the Kissing Camels, the Praying hands, the Leathered American Indian Face, a Large Whale, and more. It is great fun for the children to find these and even search for their own. Oh, who am I kidding? When my husband goes with us, he is worse than the kids are.

The park is pet friendly and has fantastic bike trails. They have guided bus tours, which one needs to arrange ahead of time. Guided walks and horseback riding are also available. The Nature Center holds many exhibits and the kids seem to love the information they accrue. There are picnic tables available first come, first serve, but even if you can't find one, you can always find a nice rock to sit down and enjoy your meal. If your not a walker or hiker, bring along your bikes. Many people enjoy the bike trails that the park keeps. Just make sure you follow the rules of the park. The park is open from 5am until 11pm in the summer and 5am until 9pm in the Winter. While the Nature Center is open from 9am until 5pm in Winter and 8am until 8pm in Summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend).
