I must confess that when I think of pirates the first thought that comes to my mind is not Johnny Depp. This by no means indicates that he isn't a perfectly delicious pirate only that the title of pirate was decided in my heart and mind many years ago. Music plays a vital role in my life. I can find music to fit almost any mood and any day without music in my opinion could have been a better day.

Jimmy Buffett has a style of music that is almost indescribable. Though he holds closely to a somewhat country style with his music there are heavy undertones of lands far away that no other artist has managed to capture and capitalize quite the way that Jimmy Buffet has managed to do. He has literally cornered that market and is hoarding the profits he has plundered in his long and distinguished career.

Perhaps the most appealing thing about Jimmy Buffett is that he offers no apologies. He is what he is and he is living a life that most men and women around the world have every right to envy. Imagine getting paid to do what you love? It's a wonderful dream for many and that in and of itself is part of the pirate image. It seems almost criminal to have that much fun and get paid for doing so.

Those who have seen Jimmy Buffett in action must admit that he makes having fun look like such hard work and effort. But many question this pirate and his longevity. Not many musicians mainstream or not have experienced the popularity and acclaim that Jimmy Buffett has managed for any period of time and he has been around the music industry for longer than I have been alive.

So what is the secret to the success of a musician such as Jimmy Buffett? Well, in all honesty it has nothing to do with him being a pirate and more to do with his ability to evolve. As Jimmy Buffett has grown and matured (I hope you're not reading this Jimmy) we've seen his music change subtly enough to meet the evolving needs of the market to which Jimmy Buffett's music is generally attractive.

Takeaways
  • Jimmy Buffet is the original Pirate of the Caribbean.
  • Jimmy Buffett has very loyal fans.
  • Jimmy Buffett's music is constantly evolving while remaining true to the hearth of his music.
