Not one to watch daytime TV, I was probably the last one to hear about the riff between the View's Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. A dear friend of mine brought the scuffle to my attention and it went something like this.

"Did you hear? Rosie and Elisabeth got into it on The View. Rosie called the American military terrorists and for once Hasselbeck stood up for herself!"

In the past I had always agreed with O'Donnell's viewpoints in the past so I asked her to clarify what Rosie had said. Here is the transcript taken from the heated episode on May 17th:

O'Donnell: I just want to say something. 655,000 Iraqi civilians are dead. Who are the terrorists?

Hasselbeck: Who are the terrorists?

O'Donnell: 655,000 Iraqis. I'm saying you have to look, we invaded...

Hasselbeck: Wait, who are you calling terrorists now? Americans?

O'Donnell: I'm saying if you were in Iraq, and the other country, the United States, the richest in the world, invaded your country and killed 655,000 of your citizens, what would you call us?

Hasselbeck: Are we killing their citizens or are their people also killing their citizens?

O'Donnell: We're invading a sovereign nation, occupying a country against the U.N.

My friend scoffed and said, "Can you believe what Rosie said?" All I could say was, "Yes! I agree with her 100% and I've always felt that way."

Hearing her take Hasselbeck's side bothered me but it wasn't until I heard the same comments from others online that something was set off inside of me.

Despite being a former US Marine with an active duty husband currently stationed in Iraq, I firmly support Rosie's comment and it blows me away to think that other Americans don't get what she's talking about. It is both highly arrogant and a little ignorant for Americans to say we are not terrorists in the eyes of innocent Iraqi civilians.
