Aspartame, better known as NutraSweet, has been linked to memory problems in studies of students who consumed the product. However, it should be noted that while student who consumed NutraSweet experienced memory related issues, their consumption of the product involved at least 4 diet drinks each day.
Although a small amount of NutraSweet does not appear to have a negative affect on the brain, those who consume larger amounts or the very young or elderly, are at risk of negative affects. In addition for those who experience much stress, the intake of NutraSweet, raises their risk of negative reactions.
Many are sensitive to NutraSweet or aspartame. It has been reported by the FDA that 75% of adverse food reactions involve the substance. The reactions can be mild or of a serious nature even including seizures, and death. Other reactions include, lack of sensation, speech difficulties, vertigo, difficulty breathing, insomnia, issues with sight, and tinnitus to name a few. If you are experiencing any these symptoms, you may be sensitive to aspartame.
For those who have medical issues such as epilepsy, parkinson's, alzheimer's, lymphoma, fibomyalgia, multiple sclerosis, or even birth defect, the consumption of NutraSweet or aspartame may worsen the condition.
A person's behavior can actually be altered by the use of aspartame. This sound like a strong statement, but Studies have shown on animals that aspartame has the ability to alter chemicals in the brain. When the brain's chemicals are altered behavior is affected.
NutraSweet is many times sweeter than natural sugar. It is actually 200 times sweeter. As a result, when one uses this sugar substitute, they are ingesting much fewer calories. This is why NutraSweet took on the role of a diet aid. However, it is interesting that NutraSweet, or aspartame, is actually the cause of much weight gain for those using it to assist in weight loss.
