It seems like every day 57 Miles of Metaversed.com is giving me the inside scoop on companies that are joining the metaverse of Second Life. Just recently Intel has joined the ranks of countless companies in Second Life.Elliott Garrigus spoke about Intel Software Network Zone, which opened its doors to Second Life residents everywhere. Intel built the Software Network Zone to foster and build relationships with all Second Life residents.
Why has Intel decided to venture into Second Life? Most believe that it is for advertising reasons. Elliott Garrigus has a sincere belief that Second Life is a breeding ground for the future, a future of innovative solutions.
The Intel Software Network Zone offers five large areas on its Sim. The Mobility Community, Multi Core, Manageability sector, Showcase arena, Conference Center, and Sandbox. Intel offers some great products such as Open Source. I am not very technically savvy but Dr. Tim Madson explains that it's an option to build models in real time and have the ability to drop it into Second Life.
The staff at Intel is trying to join Second Life as quickly as possible and is extremely interested in the scripting options available to Second Life Residents.
Though some residents are skeptical and think that Intel will have nothing to do with normal every day Second Life residents. Residents believe that Intel is just eventually going to be another pot mark on the face of Second Life and that the free laptop "give away" is just not enough.
The Second Life residents' comments are that it is the same thing with every major company. The corporation gives away a few freebies and then poof they are gone. Negative comments were hiding in every corner of Intel's grand opening. I personally received negative comments from a "Greifer" while in Second Life looking around the Intel Software Network Zone.
Intel Development Zone and Second Life member Gadget Mandelbrot comments saying "Not at all, We want to create a community where Intel produces tools that everyone can use. We are always open to comments from Second Life residents.
