Land Purchased for Beverly Hillbillies Casino

Beverly Hillbillies Casino Inches Forward

Max Baer, Jr. was best known for his role as the loveable dope, Jethro Bodine, on "The Beverly Hillbillies" television sitcom. Baer is now bringing the Beverly Hillbillies into the 21st century, with plans to open the Beverly Hillbillies Casino and Mansion in Douglas County, Nevada. Baer
has announced the acquisition of the first plot of land for the Beverly Hillbillies Casino development, with plans for additional land purchases after proper zoning has been acquired.

Max Baer, Jr. purchased a 2.5 acre plot of land in Douglas County with plans to develop a casino resort themed after the 1960s television sitcom, The Beverly Hillbillies, of which Baer was a star. Baer reportedly purchased the land at a price of $1.2 Million. The acquisition followed the sale of an old Wal-Mart building that Baer sold in nearby Carson City for a reported $8.5 Million.

Although further real estate acquisitions will be required to complete the project, Baer has been reported to say that he is at least putting his money where his mouth is. Baer hopes that the acquisition will show people that he is committed to moving forward with building the Beverly Hillbillies Casino and Mansion in Douglas County, Nevada.

In addition to the current acquisition, Baer will also require a second parcel of land that is just under 21 acres. Baer does not plan to purchase the additional parcel of land, which is currently owned by Carson City businessmen Michael Hohl and Dink Cryer, until proper zoning changes have been approved by the County Planning Commission.

The changes that Baer is waiting for includes a height variance zoning map amendment and a special use permit. The height variance is required for a 200 foot flameless oil derrick and a LED Readerboard. These items will be considered by the County Planning Commission on June 12, and the zoning map amendment will be considered again on July 5 by County Commissioners.

This boggles my mind since I read (some time ago) that Baer wanted the public to forget his association with the BHB. Until it comes to cashing in on the name again, eh?

Yeah, it's kind of odd to see what he looks like now. Personally, I would not have recognized him.
