Burn more calories is a goal that the majority of people have today. Experts seem to agree that the best way to burn more calories is through body movement. The use of magical pills, special diet drinks and even counting carbohydrates will not increase your burning more calories in the long run.

What are some good ways to get moving? According to George Bray, MD, with the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, La., the best way to burn calories is with a brisk daily walk. Those walks will increase your circulation and optimize your body to burn more calories throughout the day. So, it's time to look around your neighborhood or local parks and take those walks that you have been putting off for so long. Your body will continue to burn calories after you have exercised if the original workout was intense and aerobic.

According to Christopher Wharton, PHD from Yale University, our bodies burn double the number of calories with more muscle. According to Wharton, "10 pounds of muscle would burn 50 calories in a day spent at rest, while 10 pounds of fat would burn 20 calories." That is a huge difference! You can utilize this information by converting your body fat into body muscle. You will be burning more calories during the day even on those days you weren't able to get in a good workout. Muscles are definitely the way to go for burning up calories in the body.

As we age our metabolism slows down. What does a slow metabolism mean? This means that our bodies take twice as long to burn up calories as it did when we were younger. It will be a lot harder to get rid of all those calories from a hamburger that you ate when you're 50 then when you're just 20. The best way to increase your metabolism rate is through muscles. So not only will muscles burn more calories when you rest, they will speed up how fast your body burns calories. This is good news for all of us that want to lose and maintain weight because muscles can be built up in the body and accomplish two things at once! You will burn more calories with a faster metabolism.

Great information, my husband and I recently decided low-carb dieting was too tough and it wasn't working well for us, we swapped to low calorie dieting and the pounds are coming off!! He's lost 22 and I've lost 19!
