Georgetown, TX -- a small town about 25 miles north of Austin, TX -- is a very quaint town, a place with great people and great family life. It is, however, not a place for gourmet food by any stretch of the imagination. Having grown up all around the world and traveling to many of the cities with a family that, by most accounts, is very well off, I've had the opportunity to eat in many different countries and sample a cornucopia of cuisine. The main vice that I have is not smoking, drinking, drugs, video games, or other topics - but, instead, spending time eating excellent food with my wife and/or son. Hayashi Sushi & Grill is a unique blend of Japanese and Americanized Japanese. Although the authentic Japanese taste is somewhat missing, the flavors are phenomenal. Chef Hayashi has brought together excellent combinations of old fashioned and contemporary in order to create a distinctive taste. The normal sushi and sashimi exists with excellent flavor and extremely fresh fish.
It is, however, the Chef specialty and sushi rolls that bring out the one of a kind essence that Hayashi Sushi and Grill seems to have. The Volcano, for example, comes forth in a creative stacking of rice and fish, garnished with red caviar. An Alligator is proffered with Unagi served over a mango, cream cheese and shrimp tempura roll.
One of the more unique aspects of the Chef's creations is the variety of sauces that are served with each plate. Unlike a traditional sushi bar, the serving dishes are not brought forth to be eaten with soy sauce and wasabi. Instead, flavorful options are arrayed beside the food. Ranging from mango extract to kiwi sweet to a red-hot mayonnaise aioli, these diverse tastes tantalize the palette and bring forth a salivary heaven just thinking about it.
