Reusable Nursing Pads and Disposable Nursing Pads: Which Will You Want to Use

Pros and Cons

When you first are breastfeeding you may find that your breast are leaking, maybe you are nursing you newborn on your left breast and all of the sudden your right breast starts to express milk too. Maybe you aren't nursing at all and are gazing at your baby
with deep thoughts of how precious and wonderful they are and all of the sudden your milk lets down and both the left and right breast begin to leak milk. Even before your baby is born there is a chance that your breast could leak. Something that can help the milk from leaking on to your shirt is of course a bra but what can really help is having a nursing pad with in that bra.

Now when it comes time to pick out a nursing pad and you will see that you have the option of disposable nursing pads and reusable nursing pads. Determining which one you will want to use isn't always easy. In my personal experience I found that although the disposable nursing pads were nice because they were initially a cheaper investment, not in the long run obviously, if you got the cheapest brand at the store you were likely to find that unless you stayed on top of switching them that the milk was going to saturate the nursing pad and then leak through to the bra and possibly the shirt you were wearing. The next time that I got nursing pads I purchases the Lansinoh Nursing Pads. A world of difference, truly were reliable, but I knew that they would be an investment if I planned to use them all of the time that I was nursing, So I got reusable nursing pads, once again the Lansinoh brand. After using both washable and disposable pads I concluded what worked better for me in a look at the pro and cons of both types of nursing pads.

Pros and Cons

Now for the pros and cons I am considering my experience with the Lansinoh brand of both types of nursing pads.

Pros of Disposable Nursing Pads

They are thinner and as long as I have some on hand I don't have to worry about washing them. Never leaked through to my bra or shirt. If I lose one it isn't a big deal, because they are about 14 cents a piece.

I was lucky. Never leaked at all. But this is a great comparison for the majority of nursing mamas. :)

I always leaked through my reusable ones. I love the Lansinoh disposable ones.

Great article for new moms! I found that I liked disposable for when I was going out and reusable for when I was at home.
