The New Laptop Lojack

In the internet age of technology, electronics are becoming more and more valuable and expensive. As a result, more and more people's laptops are being stolen. On my college campus along my suitemate who I was living with had his laptop stolen after leaving the suite door unlocked in the middle of the night. In the college dorms it is often common to leave the suite door unlocked so that your friends can come in and out of your suite to stop by and visit. However, there are people, especially in college who decide to steal other people's belongings. In my building on campus which housed three hundred students, five laptops were stolen. Overall of the college campus twenty laptops were stolen, forcing the school administration and police department to issue an email to all students telling them to lock up their valuables including their laptops.

The theft of laptops has risen so much that a new piece of technology called "laptop lojack" has been invented by Dell computers. Dell has been a leading innovator in technology along with Apple in creating new software and inventions to make people's lives easier. The lojack for the computer will prevent theft; much like lojack in cars has helped prevent theft.

When lojack was first installed into cars, the number of stolen cars went down by more than twenty-five percent. I have a feeling that installing lojack software onto laptops will have that same effect. Now the police will be able to locate stolen laptops and give them back to students. In today's society laptops can cost upwards of $500 and the more security that a person has to help them protect their valuables the better.

Of course the best way of protecting your laptop to make sure that it doesn't get stolen is to lock up your dorm room or house door once you leave. Another great thing to do is to buy a laptop lock. The lock for laptops can be sold at any electronics store and is great at preventing theft. The lock connects to the laptop on the side on the computer while the other end of the lock goes around the desk that it is connected to. To unlock the laptop from the desk, you can use the key that the lock comes with it to remove the laptop.
