Maroon 5: It Won't Be Soon Before Long
In an age where no one's sound can be attributed as original, it is not a surprise to hear 80's-era definitive sonancy similarities, such as Prince and Talking heads. One that's clearly distinct is that of The Police, heard on tracks like Wake Up Call and Won't Go Home Without You . Albeit, a very watered down version and minus Copeland on drums.
The heavily produced, radio friendly album is sure to turn out chart toppers although nothing with depth. If fetching beats keep you sidetracked, I would suggest not singing along. The lyrics are adolescently written and appertain to a band whose genre is Emo. The sexual innuendo in the track Kiwi , is so blatant it instantly becomes unappetizing. Chalk this album up as poorly written and covered up by layers of lackluster tunes.
Were you charmed by the first single? Were you then immediately disappointed at the album as a whole? I propose you check out an understated band called, Under The Influence Of Giants. Their self titled debut on Island records, released in August 2006 will give you more what you're looking for.
