Adam Sandler- Comic, Singer, Actor, Writer

Adam Sandler was born on September 9, 1966. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. Sandler's father was an engineer and his mother stayed home with the kids. There are three Sandler siblings. Adam's family later moved to New Hampshire while he was still just a kid. Sandler loved sports, but didn't really like the academic portion of school. Sandler is a huge professional wrestling fan. He was and still is a basketball fan. He shoots hoops still to blow off steam or boredom. Adam is a New York Yankees fan, too. Sandler is also an excellent singer. He was in a cover band when he was a teenager.

Sandler was, of course, the class clown. Sandler credits Mel Brooks, John Belushi, Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield as influences. When he was about to graduate, Adam Sandler accompanied his brother to a comedy club on open mic night. Although he wasn't great that first night, he decided right then that comedy was what he wanted to do with his life.

He started writing his own material and touring mostly colleges. Sandler would get so nervous that he would start to stutter. His brother suggested that Sandler try singing a few songs at first to warm up. This was just the trick that Adam needed.

Due to parental pressure, Sandler attended New York University and studied drama. But Sandler didn't give up on his comedy. He continued to perform stand-up while attending college. Adam's roommate at NYU, Tim Herlihy, would end up being Sandler's writing partner for many of his movie hits.

Sandler's first break came when he got a part on the megahit Cosby Show . Sandler played Theo Huxtable's best friend Smitty. Sandler was in four episodes altogether in 1987-1988. Sandler graduated NYU with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts specializing in Drama in 1988.
