Buying athletic shoes can be a tricky shopping experience. Depending on your athletic needs, there are a plethora of athletic shoe styles on the market. Because one shoe does not fit everyone, it is important to understand the dynamics of athletic shoe design and, from this, choose the shoe that is best for your athletic and foot needs. Ever had an athletic shoe that fit your foot just perfectly? Because each shoe company creates its own mold on which their shoes are built, one shoe company's foot may fit your feet perfectly while another does not. For this reason, if you've had good success with a particular brand or line of shoe, odds are, this same brand or line of shoe will continue to work in your favor.
The next common issue among athletic shoe design is that of weight. For most popular athletic shoes today, the interior of the shoe is generally made with what is known as "slip lasting" meaning there is no board or hardened component on the interior of the shoe. Without this board or hardened component, the athletic shoes of today are much lighter but, by the same token, may not provide the support you need for your athletic needs.
Another area that should be examined, when buying athletic shoes, is the shape of the shoe and how closely it matches the shape of your foot. Quite simply, when shopping for athletic shoes, hold the bottom of the shoe against your foot and note how well the shoe shapes to the shape of your foot. It is important to find a shoe that is as close in match to your actual foot shape.
The heel of your athletic shoe will also gauge your comfort. If you have a history of prior foot disorders, or your calves are rather short, consider purchasing an athletic shoe with high heels. Along this same line, the shock absorbency should also be adequate to provide good cushioning to your foot.
The front part of the shoe, the toe area, should provide adequate space for your toes to spread out when running. Without this proper toe space, the athletic shoe will create a hazard for your toes, leading to blisters, bruised toes and even damage to the toenails.
