On a recent trip to Charleston, South Carolina, My husband and I tried several restaurants that were new to us. We chose to eat Saturday supper at the Charleston Crab House. The Crab House has three locations - James Island, Mount Pleasant, and downtown Charleston. We dined at the downtown Charleston restaurant. The restaurant is prominently located on a corner, which makes it stand out from the surrounding restaurants and stores. They feature roof top dining. Although we did not eat on the roof, we did get to sit by a window with a fantastic view of the city. I chose the crab cakes with Charleston She-crab soup instead of the salad. I ordered Charleston red rice and vegetables as a side. I thought the vegetables were a little overdone and lacked salt, but the rest of the meal was phenomenal. I had never tried she-crab soup before, and I was delighted with my choice. The soup was creamy and extremely full-flavored. I enjoyed each spoonful and even found myself scraping the bottom of the bowl. The crab cakes and were also very delicious. I have never had better. Full of meat, each bite was worthy of being savored. I ended the meal happy and satisfied. It's no wonder locals have voted this the #1 restaurant in town!

Entree prices range from $15-30. They feature mostly crab dishes, but do have some alternate seafood and non seafood items as well. However, I highly recommend eating crab at a crab house. They truly are experts at fixing crab. A huge highlight for my visit to Charleston's Crab House was their kid menu. They offered a macaroni and cheese dish for $3. My three-year old loved it, which meant that I loved it, too. There were other kid friendly items as well, guaranteed you will find something for your picky toddler.

The atmosphere at the Charleston Crab House perfectly matches downtown Charleston, casual, open, fun. You find people dressed in dressy casual as well as in a little more upscale dress. Many are in shorts with a *nice* shirt. The music was unobtrusive, and you can tell the waiters enjoy working at the Crab House. Our waitress was especially friendly and did a super job. She fully deserved a generous tip.
