1 - Look for it. Sometimes, all it takes to capture something special on film, is an open mind. Look around you, the world is verily teeming with people or things that elicit emotions in people. A baby's face right after it sneezes. A woman with wet hair, her head tilted slightly to one side, looking at you. A father sitting alone smoking a cigarette on the back porch. These are images we can see in our heads if we only try. And once you are able to visualize them, it's only a matter of getting the camera to capture what you've already seen. To do this, you only need practice.
2 - Create it. Sometimes you, the person holding the camera, are in a position to create art right in front of you, and then, to capture it with your camera. It might be something as simple as arranging a bouquet of flowers or as difficult as painting a large mural. In short, the art already exists, so your job is to simply do your best to capture it's beauty.
