Films Opening Early This Month

Early in the month of February, the month of love, host to Valentine's Day, brings some interesting movies to theaters. This month appeals to me because there is a well rounded trove of cinematic treasure to pick from.
From a Nicholas Sparks' novel to the thermally-challenged thrillers to mythic Greek gods waging war against a teenage boy to a remake of a classic horror film, the first half of February promises to be one of the most promising movie months in some time. I will have to work my Wii Fit Plus double time to work off the popcorn calories this month.

Movies Opening February 5, 2010

Dear John - Drama, Romance, War, and PG-13 - Another Nicholas Sparks' novel hits the big screen. This one stars Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried as John Tyree and Savannah Curtis. They meet while he is home on leave and she is on spring break. For the next seven years the pair meets only occasionally as John's deployments keep sending him into dangerous situations. They keep in touch through letters that ultimately have serious consequences.

From Paris With Love - Action, R - Jonathan Rhys Meyers is James Reese, personal aide to the U.S. Ambassador in France, a man with a cushy job. He moonlights for the CIA and dreams of the day when he can become a full-fledged agent and really get his hands dirty. That day has come and he is ecstatic until he meets his partner, Charlie Wax. John Travolta breathes life into Wax, a man on the edge who has Reese wishing he was back behind his desk instead of along for this bullet-ridden, terror ride.

Frozen - Thriller, R - Kevin Zegers, Shawn Ashmore, Emma Bell are three snowboarders who climb aboard the chairlift for one last run. The chair is stuck and they can't get anyone to notice they're stuck. The lights go down and the resort is closed...until the following weekend, forcing the three friends to take desperate measures to save themselves from hypothermia and other horrifying obstacles that await them.
