In this tutorial you are going to learn how to take your digital photos and make them look like old antique photos. I often do this with old buildings and sometimes some pictures o
f people.

To begin with, you are going to need some knowledge of Photoshop. You need to know how to navigate through the various tools and settings. I will be walking you through all of the steps, but it is just easier if you have some know how of Photoshop.

Now let's get started and make your photos look like they are old.

Step One. The very first thing that you must have is a picture that you want to apply this effect to. I usually go with a picture of an old barn, church, etc. It is totally up to you what you want to apply this to.

Step Two. Once you have your picture open in Photoshop, duplicate the background layer by pressing Ctrl+J on your keyboard. This will allow you to keep a clean copy just in case.

Step Three. The next thing to do is to Desaturate your photo by pressing Ctrl+Shift+U on the keyboard, or by going to the Image menu, down to Adjustments, and over to Desaturate. This will take all of the color out of your photo.

Step Four. Next go to the Image menu, down to Adjustments, and over to Photo Filter. Your goal in here is to give the picture a sepia tone. In order to do this, change the filter type to Sepia, and increase the Density to around 85%, and click OK.

Step Five. Now create a new layer on top of all of your layers and fill that new layer with White. Now go to the Filter menu, down to Texture, and over to Grain.

Step Six. In the Grain window, make sure the Grain Type is set to Vertical, set the Intensity to 90, and the Contrast to 85. Now click OK on the Grain window.

Step Seven. You should now see the grain on top of the white background. To apply this grain to your picture, change the blend mode of the White layer to Multiply. This will make the grain show to your sepia picture.

Step Eight. In order to make it more real, put a layer mask on your top layer. You can do this with the button at the bottom of the layers section that looks like a box with a circle inside of it.
