A kidney, toenail clippings, one cornflake, and Britney Spears' (used) chewing gum—these are all items that have been auctioned on eBay. But a new trend has emerged on the popular auction website: selling one's
virginity. Call it prostitution; call it "enterprising"; call it downright crazy. There are indeed young women who have decided to market something that most individuals hold precious and dear. It is perhaps for this reason that a 19 year-old woman from New Zealand sold her virgin status for a crisp $32K. And there are quite a few others following suit.
Virgin Sales-R-Us
In Germany, a Romanian teen decided that to pay for school, she would auction off her virginity. Interestingly enough, the young girl is now being required to pay taxes on her—(ahem)--income. Even Tyra Banks was able to rustle up another example: 22 year-old Natalie Dylan wanted to pay her college tuition by auctioning her naughty bits. The offers on her table even reached into the millions. To make things even juicier, said tryst was to take place at Nevada's infamous Bunny Ranch—a legal brothel featured on HBO.
The Nuts and Bolts...
These women are free to sell anything they wish (within certain parameters of the law.) And as long as auction sites are willing to oblige, perhaps the trend will continue on into the future. But don't expect to see young, nubile virgins popping up alongside the laptop computers and used iPods. If this is the sort of thing you're looking for, you'll need to log into the Adults Only section and verify that you're 18 or older. After that, you'll have to verify your password again—and then you'll be required to submit credit or debit card information—just to be on the safe side. This is such a sticky topic that eBay wastes no energy in making sure that transactions are above board.
