Ten Weight Loss Facts to Keep in Mind #1: Muscle Weighs More Than Fat

If you are exercising in hopes of speeding up the weight loss process, don't get discouraged if the scales won't budge. Even if your weight goes up a few pounds, this isn't a reason to get discouraged. The fact is, as you exercise, you will build muscle which will weigh more than fat. Instead of getting on your scale every week, pay more attention to other signs that show your weight loss.

The fact is, many doctors will tell you that a 2 pound weight loss is healthy and should be what you're reaching for each week.

Hey geniuses- you can't "change fat to muscle"... they are two totally different things. One does not change into the other. I think you may have meant, losing fat and gaining muscle.

Great tips! I have been on a diet and exercise plan since March and have lost 40 pounds! The one thing I will add is that water does more than make you feel full. Drinking cold water can actually help you lose more weight by raising your metabolism for short periods of time. I drink 80 oz a day. Again, good article.

Amy-- you really know how to choose a picture, that is seriously eye-catching! Thanks for the refreshingly intelligent and reasonable weight loss article-- there's so much empty non-scientific hype about dieting, it's a nice change to get something more fact-based.
