If you're like me, you've found that EA Games "The Sims 2" is addictive and fun, and that it entertains for hours. In large part, this is due to the "custom" nature of the game experience. You can customize everything from hair colors and facial structure to walls and floors. While the first incarnation of the game had its customizable features, the sequel takes it so much further. Not only are there multiple color and finish options within the original game content, but EA Games has made it so much easier to download and install custom content off the internet as well as make your very own! However, enjoying the custom content features can be difficult when they won't show up on your game. You've spent hours searching for, downloading, installing, and creating this custom content, but you still can't get it to work! It might be one of the most frustrating things about playing "The Sims 2"! Not to fear, dear reader. I have simple fixes that will make sure that you can use that custom content you so painstakingly collected. Even if you have barely figured out how to download and install custom content, these fixes will probably help! All you need to do is ask yourself some simple questions, and I will give you the answers.

First things first -- back up your game!
Making a backup copy of your game files is simple and useful and should be done periodically, but especially before installing an expansion pack (EP) or if you have problems making content appear. Unless you are transferring your game files to a new computer or restoring your entire machine, which you probably aren't right now, the easiest way to back up your files is simply to make a copy of the files right on your desktop. Because the original game content files can be reinstalled to your computer at any time with the CD-ROMs you purchased, when you back up your files, you will actually be making copies of your custom content in another folder.

Takeaways
  • Is custom content enabled in your game?
  • Do you have the right EP?
  • Do you have the right mesh?
Did You Know?
Tired of constantly trying to keep your Sim family alive instead of actually having fun? A simple cheat can fix that! In the cheat window (CTRL+Shift+C) just type "maxmotives" without the quotations!
