Knocked Up has been knocking it out of the park with great reviews, however I disagree with all the initial hype and praise.

Knocked Up was written and directed by Judd Apatow, notable for having also directed The 40 Year Old Virgin. This comedy stars some familiar faces from The 40 Year Old Virgin: Seth Rogan, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Leslie Mann(the director's wife), and from Grey's Anatomy Katherine Heigl. The story's main characters are Seth Rogan, as Ben Stone, and Katherine Heigl, as Alison, who meet for a one night stand and end up having a child together.

This film is getting rave reviews and the only raving I can add of my own is a loud yell of: WHY? I was numbed by boredom and lame attempts at humor almost immediately and it never really picked up.

Okay, to be positive, all of the actors did well in their roles; except for the older kid that was in it, she did poorly. There were some funny moments. However, the overall feel of the movie was exactly like The 40 Year Old Virgin in that it felt like a bunch of fun people hanging around and making stuff up as they went along. I chuckled a few times, but for most of the time I was squirming in my seat and wondering when the thing would end. Lots of lame dialog , pauses, and like The 40 Year Old Virgin was too long. In the end I think The 40 Year Old Virgin was funnier.

The jokes in Knocked Up are nothing original if most any of them can even be considered jokes or comedy at all. The movie was more like a feel good sort of film which people with kids, having a kid, or bored with their marriage may relate to, but then that makes it sad considering the subject matter and how negative those relatable feelings must be. I wasn't laughing often enough to have paid theatre ticket prices to see this film.

The comedy in this film was meagre at best, but I found 40 Your Old Virgin to be hilarious.

I was encouraged by Seth Rogan's growth throughout the course of the film. He was the consummate slacker for about 75% of the film until he finally stepped up to the plate and took responsibility for himself, even getting a real job. And I loved when he went toe-to-toe with Alison's sister.

Yes if one goes into the theatre looking for an educational, hollywood feel good ending of a film then it is right on the mark...looking for comedy, then the laughs are chuckles stretched too far and few between..if they wanted to keep kids from having sex in high school by using this film I don't think it would work, the characters behavior never has any real consequences by the end and look at how great both baby areas looked immediately for both parents. Thanks for the comment!

I'm on the other side of the fence on this film; I thought it was funny and a perfect companion piece to "Virgin." If high school showed this film to students, I think there would be fewer unwanted pregnancies.

I was wondering about all the rave reviews myself, but I just didn't envision it being all that funny. The only thing is that where I live you can catch the matinee for $3.00 bucks so that's cheaper than DVD rental around here which run about $4:00 after tax...
