Analysis: Ron Paul Still Ignored by Sunday Newspapers, Mainstream Media

Internet Buzz, Appearances on Dennis Miller and the Daily Show Spur Little Additional Mainstream Media Coverage

PITTSBURGH -- Although Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul continues to generate internet buzz and coverage via less traditional media outlets, the mainstream media maintains its lack of Dr. Paul's campaign.

A survey of Sunday newspapers (conducted via Google News and the Pittsburgh newspapers) shows that Dr. Paul has received

little or no coverage from the mainstream news outlets this weekend.

A Sunday Google News search shows only two references to Ron Paul, with both of these being Letters to the Editor to small New York newspapers (The Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin and the Elmira Star Gazette). All other weekend Google News stories regarding Ron Paul were either spoofs, such as "Ron Paul Avatar Elected US President in Second Life," or editorials written by online news organizations.

Reading through the Pittsburgh newspapers (as a sample of what Americans were reading about in their Sunday papers) provided a similar picture. The somewhat liberal Pittsburgh Post-Gazette provided editorials regarding Barack Obama and President George Bush. The more conservative Pittsburgh Tribune-Review editorial section offered even more election coverage, with extensive pieces about Hillary Clinton, Fred Thompson, Barack Obama, and Bill Richardson. Most of these pieces were not positive, but they were coverage nonetheless. (The Tribune-Review did run an editorial piece in Monday's paper titled "Why pummel Ron Paul," which discusses how some Republicans are looking to exclude Dr. Paul from debates because they disagree with his political beliefs and straight-talking attitude).

After watching Face the Nation on Sunday October 14, 2007 I sent CBS this letter. Dear Sir or Madam, After watching your program this Sunday, it occurred to me to ask you how often have you had Senator John McCain on your program and gotten his take on the issues confronting us. I believe your answer would be that he has been a guest of yours multiple times. Therefore, you viewers should certainly either be familiar with his take on positions or have a reasonable idea of his view. My point being why not field some other candidates with different ideas and different views from this same-old, same-old positions. Of which, so many Americans have become so weary and disheartened with. Your commentators mentions the need for new ideas in the Republican Party yet fail to mention the name of the man that espouses ideas and solutions far different than any other of the top six Republican candidates. Of course, I refer to Congressman Ron Paul, whose poll numbers, political donation

I drove from Dallas to attend Dr. Paul's birthday bbq in Texas City last weekend and was delighted to see the variety of freedom-loving people who crowded the convention center. As the afternoon wound down, Dr. Paul stood at the front and spent time with every single person who had questions or wanted pictures and autographs. He is the REAL DEAL! How do I get the word out? Do I have to type Paris Hilton Paris Hilton Paris Hilton Lindsey Lohan Lindsey Lohan Bathroom Sex Scandle in my comments to get the average American to stumble upon Dr. Paul's message? hmmm.

Remember Ron Paul is an underdog. At least thats what the polls are showing at this time. I for one have not forgotten elections can be stolen in this country. Why not the polls? Where is the law that says elections have to be fair, just and accurate from start to finish. If anything 2000 and 2004 proved that something is wrong and that nobody with the power to change things wants things to change a thing. Ron Paul seems to be 200 0/0 the right man for this country and should clean house in Washington for 2 terms as our president. The choice however is not of and by the people. The media knows best for America with its polls that are not overseen. It can print and edit as it pleases. To much power you say? Well then, cancel your cable TV,ISP, stop buying newspapers and magazines and try to look at the country and world and think for yourself. If thats to much to sacrafice then Americans have to be more skeptical about Corperations and let us not forget the Middle East... Without the

I am a republican paleo-con who is sick of my party being hijacked by warmongering neo-cons, who pander to the religious right, grow government, and ignore the environment. I support Ron Paul wholeheartedly, and am insulted that my opinion is dismissed and marginalized in favor of mainstream bought-and-paid-for so called 'top-tier' candidates.

EVERYBODY. Ron Paul is not getting the coverage he deserves as, in my opinion, the front runner and the nominee for President because the media is told what to do to a certain degreee. The media is going to the tell the 40 percent of Americans, who are more interested in what Paris Hilton ate for breakfast the other day, what candidate they will choose. That is A LOT of the America people...if all of us here want a chance at reviving The United States of America and bringing it back from the dead we need to start posting news letter to the news channel (i.e., CNN, FOX) to get this guy on there as much as they have Giuliani, Barack, and Hilary. HE DOES have the public support, the media just isn't telling the 40 percent that he does so...he is unknown. Freedom and Sovereignty must be restored to the white house, honesty and realistic goals; the Republic and Democracy need to come back before the New American Empire gets destroyed. Empires don't work people, let's make this a country aga

The media's response to the Ron Paul excitement on the internet is called Spamming?? Because I am passionate about Liberty for all Americans, I am called a spammer? I had only heard of Dr Paul a few weeks ago. I am excited that we could have another Thomas Jefferson in the 21st century! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me! I may never get to see a statesman like this grace our corrupt political arena! I just registered yesterday here in Columbia SC and I will be voting for Dr.Paul.

The Coporate media outlets are sponsoring thier own interest, not america's....I'm Glad american's are waking up to corporate media manipulations, some outlets are being pressured to cover Mr. Paul, and rightfully so. out of both parties, Mr. Paul brings forth the more intellegent platform of peace and constitutional responsibility, The Internet has become a friend for Mr. Paul, and Mr. Paul has many friends and supporters who are just learning of him and care for thier childrens future and are willing to tune out corporate media, and to search for truthful answers on the internet, I believe the will of the people will be heard, and Ron Paul WILL be our next President. Thank you to this Media outlet for printing this story.
