Who would ever think that a relatively new house could be haunted? When people think of haunted houses they generally think of old Victorian mansions or dilapidated buildings, but my house in Ligonier Indiana didn't fit that description. My home was only a few years old, and the possibility that the house I was living in was haunted was the furthest thing from my mind. I was living in an apartment a couple of years prior that seemed to be haunted by ghostly children skipping and playing ball in the hallway, and I had many other paranormal experiences over the years. For some reason, I seemed to attract the paranormal, but the possibility that the new house I was living in was haunted didn't occur to me - until no other explanation remained.

Basements aren't particularly scary to me, especially when they're finished, but the basement in the home I was living in was different. It wasn't a dark and scary basement like one would imagine in a typical haunted house. It had a carpeted and dry-walled living room on one side, complete with a pool table, electronic dart board, furniture, a beautiful gas log fireplace, and a TV. The other side included a newly finished bedroom and a furnace room. It didn't at all fit the profile of a haunted location, but strange things happened that I couldn't rationalize.

Although the basement wasn't old, dark, and filled with shadows, it felt as if someone was always down there, and each time I went up the stairs I had the urge to move as quickly as possible. It felt like I was being followed, and someone seemed to be right on my heels. I knew no one was really behind me, at least not anyone I could actually see. This alone didn't make me think the house I was living in was haunted.

Did You Know?
A haunted house can be brand new. The land it sits upon can be the source of the haunting.

Eww K, that is so scarey and so well written and descriptive. I think that they are attracted to you, it sounds like this one was harmless, but I would rather it go to be with God. Great story! Yes i have had some paranormal experiences too but not nearly as dramatic as yours.

Nicely written. I do know that it does not matter how old a house is because entities can be attached to the very land a house is built on, or sometimes to objects or persons.
