And Why an Addict Makes a "Good" Role Model

Lindsay Lohan's recent trip to rehab did not seem to do much good, as she was arrested May 26, 2007 for suspicion of driving under the influence. What was the suspected drug? The "usable amount" of cocaine that was found in Lohan's car after she hit a curb, sending her to the hospital with minor injuries. She also fled the scene of the accident and was later found by police officers at Century City Hospital.

For a celebrity who is idolized by so many teens, Lohan seems to be getting a lot of negative publicity lately. Mostly due to her recent trip to rehab and attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. A few weeks ago, Lohan dodged felony grand theft charges. A claim had been filed stating Lindsay stole clothing from a woman's house. However, there was inadequate evidence to justify prosecution.

Named as the top placeholder of Maxim's "Hot 100" list, Lohan keeps raking in all the attention she can get, via her looks or her ignorant behavior. This 20-year-old celebrity seems to be taking the wrong path to stardom. While her movies receive good or above average ratings, her personal life has led her to fame. With Lohan's 21st birthday right around the corner, many wondered how long it would take her to fall of the wagon.

The latest bombardment of problems for Lohan should reduce her fan base; however, odds are that Lohan will stay at the top of celebrity news. Is this the type of person parents what their children to look up to? Growing up in a different time, our parents idolized people such as Neil Armstrong and John F. Kennedy. People with morals and good characters. No one paid much attention to those who preferred a life filled with chaos, crime, and addictions. Those people were avoided and dismissed as useless. So why are today's teens drawn more to Lohan, instead of dropping her adoration like a bad habit?

Where Lohan is headed.

Interesting we haven't heard much from her in a while... maybe she's shaping up?

Overall, well informed. Dead on summation. The only thing that gave me a pause was listing John F. Kennedy in with "People with morals and good characters." Neil Armstrong I'll give ya. But JFK had way too many mistresses to make the cut. But as I said everything but that is 110% true.

It is incredibly sad how so many of these women catapulted to fame at a young age end up tripping bigtime into self-destructive behavior. Although family history can't help but play a part, at some point they need to take responsibility for their lives and the impressions they are leaving on so many adolescent fans. My step-daughter, 9, adores the Lindsey fantasy, thorough her movies and songs. Fortunately, she's too young to read the tabloids or surf the web much yet. Great article. :)

Lindsey just had her 21st birthday party at Pure nightclub in Vegas last week! I can imagine the decadent behavior that went on that nite!

Fantastic article. The graphic really grabbed my attention too! Is this the fate of most stars ... that they burn up?

That's one heck of a graphic! Nicely done piece.

The conclusion of your article reminded me again of what I believe to be very, very true: When you encounter a parent who is trying to blame television, music, video games, etc for the poor behavior or morals of their or other children, that parent is a failure, at least at raising children. They are seeking excuses, rather than admit the truth: they raised their children poorly, and these are the natural outcomes. Children reflect their parents. I'm proof of this. I grew up exposed to all of the supposed evils of television, music, games, etc, but I had parents who raised me properly and taught me the right way to behave and treat others. I turned out fine, despite having been exposed to violence, sex, language, and everything else.
