Make Stylish Wall Decor Without the Stylish Price!
DIY Project Offers Myriad Unique, Personalized Possibilities
You want to add some style and color to your walls, but you don't want to break the bank doing it? Here's a relatively quick, easy and stylish idea to create some very lovely, personalized decor that willMaterials Needed:
1 Piece of Foamboard any size (at least 8.5"X11" recommended)
1 Package of Patterned Scrapbook Paper (preferably a variety of colors and patterns)
1 Roll of Clear Contact Paper
1 Tube of Glue (Roll-On Craft Glue recommended, but any lightweight, clear-dry glue will do)
1 Pair of Scissors
1 Ruler
Take the package of scrapbook paper and pick out some patterns/colors that work well together and appeal to you. If you are making this to help accent a room or space, you may want to pick patterns that either pick up the colors already present in the space or compliment those colors present. The same thing applies to pre-existing patterns in the space. Take a good look at your environment and don't be afraid to experiment. For the illustration, I wanted to create something that was very vibrant and colorful, with a kind of patchwork tone, and I wanted to get a little wild with it so I picked pieces that shared similar color schemes and/or pattern elements but were individually high-contrast. The result was wild, colorful and very much a "patchwork" look.
Once you have your pieces of paper picked out, it's time to start cutting. To keep it simple here, I measured the board, divided it into equal sections and cut out pieces to fit those sections, but I encourage you to play around with shapes, sizes and layering. Try cutting narrow strips, overlaying them on top of wide blocks, playing with orientation, even "weaving" pieces over and under each other to come up with a look that is unique and engaging.
- You can use foamboard and scrapbook paper to make a whole range of different wall accents.
- It may help to lay out a color scheme before you begin to help compliment your space.
- Don't be afraid to experiment with different shapes and layers. Make it unique!
