The Museum of Mobile is bringing history to life in Mobile, Alabama. Interactive events make this attraction one of the number one things to do in Mobile, Alabama. From reliving a voyage on an early slave ship to glimpsing at the lives of Civil War soldiers, the Museum of Mobile brings the past to life in a way unlike any other museum of it's kind.

The Museum of Mobile is located in the Old City Hall. This building is a National Historic Landmark building that was constructed in 1857. Within it's walls, the Museum of Mobile brings over 300 years of history to life in a way that both educates and entertains all who visit the Museum of Mobile.

The Museum of Mobile features exhibits and displays that are changed and rotated continuously. There are also interactive, hands-on exhibits in the Discovery Room at the Museum of Mobile, as well as the Museum shop. All of these aspects combine to teach visitors about the life and times of what many consider to be one of the greatest Gulf Coast cities.

In addition to the large number of exhibits and displays that are rotated in and out of the Museum of Mobile, the Museum of Mobile also features several exhibits that are on permanent display. Among these are Old Ways New Days Parts I and II. Part I educated visitors about the earliest inhabitants of Mobile, Alabama and the city's 300 year history. Part II focuses more on interactive exhibits and artifacts from important events in Mobile's history, such as disasters, local industrial development and recreational activity of Mobile's residents over the years.

Another permanent display at the Museum of Mobile is titled Walls and Halls. The Walls and Halls exhibit at the Museum of Mobile is famous for the antiquities that it contains. This portion of the Museum of Mobile features antique furniture, antique silver and a significant amount of fine art, such as paintings.

Perhaps the most popular of the permanent exhibits on display at the Museum of Mobile is the famous Discovery Room. The Discovery Room at the Museum of Mobile creates an environment that allows children to get hands on with history, particular the history of Mobile, Alabama.

I grew up in Mobile during the 50's and early 60's. I used to tell my children about the Mardi Gras, Bellingrath Gardens, Dauphin Island, and how my granddaddy had actually worked on the Bankhead Tunnell, and how I had contributed my allowance to help restore and preserve the USS Alabama. I had not been back to Mobile since 1977, when I had taken my Grandmother to visit her doctor. My son was just a baby. When he turned 16, he drove the family back to Mobile to visit their first Mardi Gras. Our first stop was the Alabama. I drove through the tunnell, for memories sake. We stayed at the (new) Admiral Semmes Hotel (right across the street from the old one that I knew and remembered). We saw the Mardri Gras parade, and visited the old neighborhood where I had lived and gone to school. There were so many things that we saw and did, but the last was to visit Fort Morgan when we left town. Those children are grown now, but still talk about our visit to Mom's hometown. I haven't been back sin
