Once infected, it develops into a condition called "Pink Eye" and it can be a persistent condition that can hang on for quite some time depending on the severity.

If it is of the viral variety, the infected will suffer red, watery eyes. If it is of the bacterial variety, your eyes will turn red and become loaded with pus. My friends, I had this as a young child and it is no fun whatsoever. Also, this is INFECTIOUS, so this ramps up the intangibles of this condition. In addition, the infection can make its way to your cornea, which can result in blurred vision for weeks or months. Severe conditions can damage your cornea to the point it requires a transplant. Still think this condition is something minor?

A person can limit their chances of acquiring Pink Eye and we will outline some steps to help protect you:

(1) Make sure to wash your hands. Infected people cannot help but touch their eyeball through the process and they can easily pass the infection to someone else, so frequently wash your hands. Anything the infected individual touches become a vehicle that can be used to pass the fun on to you.

(2) Keep your hands out of your eyes in the first place. If your eyeball is itching or you feel the need to touch it, use a Kleenex or fresh towel. It may just prevent the onset of conjunctivitis.

(3) Use an antibacterial hand lotion. There are plenty of sound choices on the market and this is an excellent barrier that is effective at killing the bacteria that can bring on Pink Eye.

(4) Do not share eye makeup with somebody else. This is another modality that can induce conjunctivitis.

(5) If you're a contact lense trustee, make sure that you utilize contact lense solution. If you do not, Pink Eye can be the end result due to the contact form of the affliction.

(6) Relying too heavily on contact lenses can also induce conjunctivitis. Try and wear glasses on occasion. Wear them around the house or while reading at home if you're concerned with the cosmetic aspect of glasses.

(7) Wear eye protection such as sunglasses if in extreme weather conditions such as heat, wind, or cold.
