Everyone occasionally needs to call technical support when there is a problem with equipment related to personal computers. Everyone has complained of the time it takes to utilize technical support. How many of us have ever really stopped to think of ways that we can expedite the technical support process? Here are some common methods we can use to expedite the technical support process.

When you call for technical support, it is always a good idea to have your product name, make, and model ready as soon as the technician greets you. If you are calling for email or internet technical support, you should have all of your account information, such as account holders name, username, password, and connection speed information, readily available.

When you call for technical support, you will most likely be put on hold for a few moments. While this can be frustrating, you should remember that there may be other customers who are in the same position as you: their product failed and they want to know how to fix it. Sometimes, you can even use the wait time to try and repair the problem yourself.

When calling for technical support, it is always a good idea to provide as many details about the problem as possible. Technical support personnel are not mind readers. When calling technical support, you should give details such as what you were doing when the error occurred, any new devices you might have installed immediately prior to the error, which version of software or hardware you are currently using, and the amount of physical memory available on your computer.

Because technical support staff is well skilled, they may use terminology that you don't understand. If you have trouble understanding the technician, ask them to use language that the everyday lay person could understand.

Takeaways
  • Have your account information and product information nearby when calling tech support
  • Make sure you clearly understand the tech support personnel instructions
