After a tear-filled beak up, nothing tears at your heart-strings quite like a depressing break-up song to remind you of all the precious moments you spent together. A simple song can do so much. A rock metal song can either make you angry or it can be just what you need after a bad day at work. A country song can bring you back to the South or take you to a place you've never been before. A pop song can remind you back when you were a teenie booper in the days of the boybands. A rap song can be one that is closest to your heart and closest to life's hardships. But, nothing is quite like a break-up song. There are many categories of break-up songs.

There is the "I want you back" category that is self-explanatory, the "I don't ever want to see your face again" category that is also self-explanatory, and then there's the more common "I want you, but you don't want me" category. Beyond those categories there are two types of break-up songs. There is the kind that has great background music, but the words to it make absolutely no sense whatsoever, but you still understand what the artist is trying to say and there's the great music and great lyrics kind. In general the best songs usually contain a slow melodramatic beat with a piano, or an acoustic guitar, or a cello. The kind that drives you to those crazy thoughts probably contains all three elements. Every generation has its own group of unique artists who are able to create that perfect break-up song.
