There is the "I want you back" category that is self-explanatory, the "I don't ever want to see your face again" category that is also self-explanatory, and then there's the more common "I want you, but you don't want me" category. Beyond those categories there are two types of break-up songs. There is the kind that has great background music, but the words to it make absolutely no sense whatsoever, but you still understand what the artist is trying to say and there's the great music and great lyrics kind. In general the best songs usually contain a slow melodramatic beat with a piano, or an acoustic guitar, or a cello. The kind that drives you to those crazy thoughts probably contains all three elements. Every generation has its own group of unique artists who are able to create that perfect break-up song. The songs not only have good background music, but more importantly it has comprehensive lyrics that come together. Some of the best break-up songs never even made it into the main-stream radio, but are nonetheness some of the best out there. Here is a list of the top five best contemporary break-up songs that has every element.
