An Overview of the Boggle Jr. Game

Boggle Jr, is a child of the game Boggle-a game I played as a child and still play today. Boggle Jr. is a wonderful first game for children ages three through six (and up!) to play until they are ready to graduate to Boggle.

The game helps children to master the alphabet and spell simple words. The downfall is that is only has sixty words to spell on only thirty cards. It comes with thirty three letter words, and thirty four letter words. 

This game can be entertaining for hours or only minutes. Depends on the players, not the game itself.

A few of the words toddlers learn to spell are lion, map, bus, and sock and ant.

The game is a great way to introduce words games to play to children. I t has colorful drawings on the word cards that children can identify easily. The oversized dice are easier for children to handle (and not get LOST!!! Or placed in mouths!) A word of caution, though, the game still has small pieces and children are best observed playing this game.

The game itself is for one or more players (but then who really enjoys playing a game by oneself? Unless it is a video game or solitaire-but we are talking a board game and three to six years old here.) However, more than four and the game runs out of words too quickly and is not as much fun as two to three players.

There are two levels of game play to this game. The first is for toddler-aged children and the second is for slightly older children. In the first level, a toddler sees a card with a three-letter word and the drawing of the word. After spelling the word out correctly, they look through the eight cubes to find the ones that can be placed in the plastic tray to spell the word. As players improve, four letter words can be added to the three worded cards.

In the second level of play, the word is covered up, thus players can only see the drawing and must spell the word by memory or know how.

The game teaches children aged three to six to think, to sort, to concentrate, to spell, to share and take turns as well as object and word definition. How great a game is that?
