Become a smarter shopper by watching the type of foods you purchase. Making a list, buying only what you need and looking for sales items are ways to spend wisely. Just 10 tips to become a smarter shopper!!!

1. Prepare a list of what you need to buy for this week before you shop to avoid overspending and buy something you do not need. Beside that, you save time when you shop because of thinking what to buy or try to remember what you need to buy.

2. Check the weekly specials before you shop. Usually the shops will send you the weekly special list, check and mark things that you need in the weekly special. Of course, it will save your money when you buy things on special. However, you remember to check the expired day before buying special things.

3. Don't shop when you hungry. It can be more tempting to buy expensive treats when you hungry. It means you spend more than you need, and sometimes you buy things you don't need as well.

4. Buy fruits and vegetables that are in seasons. The season fruits are often cheaper and better quality. They are always in large amount, so you can easy to choose, and do not worry about run out of stock.

5. Buy bulk packs of fruits - they are often cheaper.

6. Consider soft and damaged fruit - they can be cooked or made juice.

7. Choose the time when the shop is less crowded, so you can easy to choose and compare your things more carefully.

8. Buy the essentials first and then be selected about the extras. It will save your time and ensure that all things you need for the week (if you shop for weekly).

9. Check what you've bought that is not on your list. I always buy something that is not on my list every time I do shopping, but you can manage it by limiting how many items you can buy without planning.

10. Aim for the checkouts when you finish all in your list. If you are taking kids, avoid them go to the counter that have lollies, toys or kid products designed to tempt them.

Often foods such as chocolate, chips, sweat biscuits and soft drinks are more expensive, they eat into the food budget and they usually provide few nutrients other than kilojoules.
