In New England going to the beach can mean going to Massachusetts' North or South Shore beaches, maybe a South County beach in Rhode Island but most likely it means making the often tedious journey to Cape Cod. The beaches at Cape Cape Cod are formidable and you really can have your choice of surf or smooth tides , bracing or warm water and beautiful sand or more beautiful sand. Perhaps that's why few New Englanders think about beaches beyond the Cape. But folks who live in Connecticut know that the Nutmeg state has more than spices. It has its own multi purpose summer surprise at Ocean Beach Park in New London, Connecticut.

Definitely a Great Beach. I love Cape Cod, but even a native from Massachusetts has to stand back and applaud what they find at Ocean Beach Park. To begin with the view of Nantucket Sound is excellent with boats frequently passing by at a distance providing non-swimmers with a wonderful view. The water is perfect for family swimming as the waves are manageable and seasonably mild. A well trained staff of life guards is on duty maintaining appropriate discipline and order both in and out of the water.

If you love to walk the beach you will have found your special little piece of paradise. Ocean Beach Park has a beach that is called "sugar sand". This is a well maintained, well kept beach of the most beautiful sand you are likely to find in New England. Even if you are not especially fond of swimming you will enjoy the chance to walk along the water's edge and experience the feel of this great sandy beach.

Takeaways
  • Ocean Beach Park is located in New London , Connecticut, not on Cape Cod.
  • The Park offers one of the best kept and most clean sandy beaches in New England
  • Ocean Beach Park also has rides, mini-golf, an arcade, "Sprayland" and concessions.
