From neighborhood potlucks and parades, to the grand events on the lakefront on Independence Day, you'll find plenty to do and explore in Seattle. Seattle is home to dozens of historical museums and veterans memorials for taking in some history during the day; at night, look forward to spectacular fireworks displays on the shores of Elliot Bay with this year's best at the 'Jul-Ivar's' celebration. If you're heading out west in hopes of Fourth of July revelry this year, make a stop in Seattle for these top picks:

A highly anticipated event each year is Jul-Ivar's by the restaurant group Ivar's, a locally owned food and shopping destination that has entertained customers for over 43 years. Ivar's operates a handful of seafood bars and restaurants on Seattle's waterfront; the first fish bar opened in 1938, and this is the only place where you can get an authentic order of soup and northwest chowder! Enjoy your classic favorites before settling in for the free show at 10 p.m; the festivities take place at Myrtle Edwards Park. Call (206) 587-6500 for more information.

If you're looking for some fast-paced action and camaraderie, Evergreen Speedway will be a natural choice. Make your way to Evergreen State Fairgrounds for a demolition derby and fireworks display; fireworks begin at dusk, leaving you plenty of time to explore the speedway grounds! Call (360) 805-6100 for more information.

Salute the American flag the old fashioned way at the Museum of Flight's 27 Flags Show. The annual event is a great reason to explore the Museum of Flight and learn about American history in the process. The entire family can give their salute at two shows scheduled on Fourth of July; one at 11 a.m., and then 2 p.m. Tickets are just $13 for adults; call (206) 764-5700 for more information.

The Start and Stripes Celebration is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. on the fourth at the Enumclaw Expo Center. Admission is free, and a fireworks display will begin at dusk, right after a parade at 6 p.m. Sample some neighborhood baked goods and patriotic treats at food booths and tap those toes to live music all day long. Call (360) 825-7666 for more information.
