Watermelon: A Healthy Snack, Dessert and so Much More

Get the Benefits of Water Without the Boring Taste

Summer would not be summer without watermelon. Many people serve this fruit at their summer parties. Some people even have watermelon eating contests. But, what makes this fruit such an amazing treat? Is it the fact that it's healthy? Is it the fact that kids enjoy seeing how far they can
spit the seeds? Or could it be the fact that watermelon is so versatile? Truthfully, it's all of the above. Watermelon is not only healthy, but it's also fun and can be made into several different dishes. The following are just some of the wonderful ways you can enjoy this summer treat.

A Healthy Snack

Watermelon is a healthy snack for so many different reasons. First of all, watermelon is a wonderful way to stay hydrated because it is around 92% water. This means that you can enjoy this snack rather than drinking a plain glass of water. But, that's not all. Watermelon is also healthy, because of it's high amount of vitamin C. It is also filled with antioxidants, which help prevent variety of different diseases. If watermelon isn't a part of your diet, it should be. While, this fruit is great on its own, you can make it into other healthy snacks such as drinks and even fruit snacks.

A Healthy Dessert

Why grab a piece of chocolate cake, when you could enjoy a healthy dessert like watermelon? A slice of watermelon is not only a delicious dessert, but it also has very few calories and is virtually fat free. Also, there are other vitamins, besides vitamin C. This watery fruit has B vitamins, vitamin A, and minerals like potassium and magnesium. We won't talk about what's in the chocolate cake. With watermelon you can make popsicles for dessert and you can even make sorbet. If these desserts are made with a sugar substitute, like Splenda, the dessert is even healthier.

I love watermelon. In Cyprus it can also be served with a chunk of cheese, which actually complements the flavours of watermelon really well. Sophie

Good article, Amy. Have you ever eaten yellow watermelon? One of my friends grows it in his garden. The growing season here is too short for red watermelon, but the yellow watermelon he grows will ripen by the end of the growing season. And it is delicious (maybe even a little tastier than red watermelon).
