There is a subtle yet still noticeable difference between people who drive cars, and people who drive trucks. For the most part, people in cars seem a bit more sensible. That's why they have a car. Some truck owners have a truck just for the sake of owning one. The truck has no real purpose or duty besides...being a truck. Car people have the car because it's practical, saves on gas, and is more comfortable and spacious. Whereas trucks are large, most of the time noisy, impractical for city use, and have very little room for passengers (unless it's one of those gargantuan ones).

The more noticeable difference is that truck people tend to think they're "all that", or the greatest thing ever. Their truck is so much better than anything you drive and therefore they are the coolest person in the world. Even if it's the most rusted out, ugliest, worst-condition thing you've ever seen, it's still better than your Honda Civic or Chevy Cavalier. It is a great privilege to see them foolishly squeal their tires, waste said tires, and bring their engine even closer to its demise. In reality people just think, "Who's that moron? Do they think they're cool?"

Another difference is that their vehicle is so much better than yours because it has more horsepower and four wheel drive. Yeah. What good is more horsepower when it takes more to make it move faster? A truck is a big, boxy thing. Not very aerodynamic. It's higher in the air (especially when it gets "lifted" or "jacked" to make it even taller), which makes for wind resistance, which slows you down (and kills your mileage). A car, however, is lower to the ground and more aerodynamic. That is, it's not a huge box 7 feet in the air. Therefore, there's less wind resistance and better handling.

My 2003 Ford Focus...not powerful, but it beats a truck at fuel economy.

lol, this is very amusing. Why do people care so much about cars, and what they are capable of doing. As long as the vehicle works and gets you from point A to point B, you should be satisfied.

Off-roading/mudding a waste of gas or in other words a waste of money? I get more satisfaction out of spending the day offroad then I do going to the movies or out to dinner. Plus, a few gallons of gas is cheaper then both. You should try it one day, you might like it. Oh wait, you can't because you drive a Focus.

It really isn't that much more gas though, compared to a lot of cars. And you can't tell me this: http://media.urbandictionary.com/image/large/ricer-17803.jpg is worse than anything someone could do to a truck. - And a few more.... http://www.topgear.com/content/timetoburn/sections/carbage/pages/0480/main.jpg ---- http://www.topgear.com/content/timetoburn/sections/carbage/pages/0502/main.jpg ---- http://www.topgear.com/content/timetoburn/sections/carbage/pages/0503/main.jpg ---- http://www.topgear.com/content/timetoburn/sections/carbage/pages/0507/main.jpg ---- http://www.topgear.com/content/timetoburn/sections/carbage/pages/0377/main.jpg ---- Ricers are louder than the average truck.

If you actually use a truck to haul stuff, good for you, that's what it's for. What I see most of the time is people who put on loud exhaust systems, raise the truck, and put all sorts of tacky things on it (large, fake, rubber testicles are one). I've been told, "Oh, you should get a truck." To which I would reply, "Why?", and get no answer besides "Because". My Focus actually has plenty of room and easily fit a 6 foot 5 football player in the trunk (That was his idea, not mine). I also fit 6 people easily into the cabin, almost as much as my mom's Chevy Venture. My Focus doesn't need to off-road, I see that as another waste of gas because you have to use more power to get over rougher terrain to get...where?

This is extremely biased, and in many cases, wrong. For Example: A Crown Victoria gets 15/23mpg (11/16 for the E85 model) and their F150 is 14/19mpg, which isn't that much worse(better than the E85). and to continue... Buick Lucerne:17/26(15/23 for V8) and Buick Rainier: 14/20 Chevy Impala:18/28 (16/24 for V8) and Chevy Colorado: 18/24 and corvette: 16/26 and 14/24 for their 7L. Dodge Charger:15/22 and Dodge Dakota:15/20 And How about some BMWs? M5/6:11/17 Z4 M: 15/22 and to argue the rest of your points... "The truck has no real purpose or duty besides...being a truck" How much stuff can you fit in a Ford Focus? How do you move stuff? Say you buy a new cabinet, how are you going to haul it home? Pay someone? "because it's practical" How so? "more comfortable and spacious." "have very little room for passengers" Ford Focus? Yeah right... Trucks are comfy and spacious. "trucks are large, most of the time noisy" Chevy Impala length(2001): 200.00 in and Chevy Co

Just wanted to make a comment about your entirely biased article. Being as how I drive a 4x4 truck I will give you my reasoning for why I have it. First of all, I bought a 4x4 because occasionally I do enjoy mudding or off-roading, thus why I have a brush-guard as well. Do I off-road everyday? No. Secondly, raising a truck, putting decals on it, etc. are all ways of making my truck 'mine'. Giving it originality. The 'Piss on Chevy' logo on my back window displays my pride for Ford. My truck has plenty of room and does just fine on gas mileage. Maybe not as well as your Focus, but hey, your Focus can't do even half the things my truck can do!
