At one time, to come across a female gamer was a rarity. However, as time passes it is becoming quite common. I've noticed an incredible increase in ladies taking part in the gaming realm since the release of World of WarCraft. With the cute variations of character features and the sweeping fantasy world, it's hard not to fall in love with a game such as that.

I began actively gaming around 8 years ago. The first game that reeled me in was the Original StarCraft by Blizzard Entertainment. It's an amazing strategy MMO and definitely to this day still on my top 5.

As a female who plays both console and PC games, I must admit it does have its ups and downs. When I enter the gaming world at times I've found it almost easier to not reveal my gender. It can at times add more complications to game play than good. For example on StarCraft there have been numerous times where I have told fellow gamers I am female and had them immediately assume I am lying. Within seconds crude comments will follow on how I am really a man and the insults begin to fly. At other times when assumed I am really a male lying they will intentionally play "cheap" and rush my base down, killing me early on in the game before anyone else. I am aware there are many men who truly do pretend to be women, and have probably crushed the heart of a lonely male gamer which could be a reason for the spite. None the less, it still does ruin things for us ladies!

Not all experiences as a woman gamer are negative however. In many cases it's actually quite beneficial. Males will give me special treatment by doing things such as giving me in game items on games that are hard to come by, or helping me get through difficult quests. Other things I've observed is that males typically tend to be more kind to me for the most part once they are aware I am a female.

A lot of people question what types of games I am actually into and enjoy playing, the list is pretty diversified. To name just a few, I enjoy The Suffering, Animal Crossing, World of Warcraft,Diablo, and on a more rare occasion Gears of War. My favorite style would probably consist of horror genre and strategy games.
