Every day is flush with history. June 6 is certainly no exception.

1391 - 5,000 Jews are murdered by citizens of Seville, Spain

1520 - Treaty of Scotland signed by England and France

1536 - Mexican inquisition begins

1639 - By Massachusetts, a grant of 500 to build a gunpowder mill

1660 - Peace treaty between Denmark and Sweden

1674 - Sivaji becomes king of India, crowns himself

1716 - The arrival of the first slaves to Louisiana

1752 - The third great fire in Moscow within two week time span destroys one third of the city.

1772 - Jean Baptiste-Pointe Dusable, a Haitian explorer, settles Chicago

1795 - 18,000 injured and one third of Copenhagen destroyed in fire

1797 - Ligurische Republic formed by Napoleon

1809 - Constitional monarchy established as Sweden declares independence

1813 - The United States invasion of Canada halted at Stoney Creek

1831 - The Second black convention is held in Philadelphia

1833 - Andrew Jackson is the first president to ride in a train

1844 - The YMCA, Young Men's Christian Association, forms in London

1850 - Levi Strauss makes his first jeans

1862- The city of Memphis is surrounded during the Battle of Memphis

1872 - Susan B. Anthony receives a fine for trying to vote

1882 - The first electric iron is patented, by H.W. Seely. Also on this day, over 100,000 die in Bombay, India due to a cyclone in Arabian Sea

1889 - The great fire in Seattle destroys 25 city blocks

1890 - The formation of the United States Polo Association in New York

1896 - In an attempt to row across the Atlantic, George Samuelson leaves the New York Harbor

1911 - Nicaragua signs a treaty to turn over customs to The United State. Not ratified.

1914 - From Scotland to Norway occurs the first flight out of the sight of land

1916 - Cleveland grants sufferage to women voters

1918 - The United States experiences their first victory of WWI at the Battle of Belleau Wood

1918 - Finland goes to war with the Bolsheviks

1944 - Theodore Roosevelt receives the congressional medal of honor. Also on this day, all baseball games are cancelled in honor of the D-Day invasion.

Wow, a lot of stuff happened on this day. But you forgot the most important: 1974--Superdork was born. :)
