Ever since the first Walt Disney movie appeared on movie screens in 1937, fans haven't been able to get enough of "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs", as well as the rest of his colorful characters. Since that time, Disney and his company have produced a vast array of movies. If you want to compile your own selection, read this informative article and learn some tips on how to build your own Disney movie collection!

Tip #1 Decide On What Your Collection Is Going to Consist Of
Yes, you can surely collect every one of the movies the Disney Company has released to date. However, that's a ton of movies! According to The Walt Disney Resource website, thus far, there are 555 Feature Films starting from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and ending with "Casanova" (2006). There are also 44 Disney Animated Films starting with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and ending with "Home on the Range" (2004). (Yes, there are repeated titles in these lists.) There are also 102 Disney Channel Original Movies, from "Tiger Town" (1983) to "Go Figure" (2005). And, let's not forget the 55 Wonderful World of Disney Television Movies which run from "Beverly Hills Family Robinson" (1997) to "Naughty or Nice" (2004).

These approximately 700 movie titles aren't all of them either. They don't include the remakes that come out from time to time. For example, the movie "Bambi" was released on video in 1989. The movie is also available in a 2- disc Special Edition. And, there's the "Bambi 55th Anniversary Limited Edition". The same movie, but under different covers. Then, of course, there's "Bambi II" which was released in 2006.

So the first tip on how to build your own Disney movie collection is to ask yourself, "What Disney movies do I want to collect?" You may want to collect only your personal favorites, the ones that are animated, the non-animated movies, or the movies that feature your favorite Disney character. The choice is up to you!

Very good article. I have grown up watching Disney and have been working bit by bit on my own DVD collection of the animated ones. My mom has a HUGE collection of her own that she keeps in the original cases, unwatched. I would love to share the same movies I loved as a child with my future children someday.

I love watching Disney movies. I just prefer any movie I know I'm going to watch over and over... with my kids or by myself. I'm a sucker for Disney. I can't help it.

I'm trying to get all the DVDs, but I still have a number of the VHS copies. Including the new banned Little Mermaid cover with the "interesting" spires in the background.

As an aside comment: Supposedly Disney will re-release most of the features they put on moratorium (the technical name for "going back in the vault") in the coming decade when hi-def DVD's are mainstream. So most families won't have to wait any more than a few more years until "Snow White" and all the ensuing classics that are starting to be put away again are released in an even better format. Seeing the rich colors in a hi-def format should be stunning...if practically making the picture open to noticing every flaw in the original cels. Not that there were any artist flaws anyway. ;)

From one Disney fan to another: Excellent recap of how to start a Disney collection that Walt would be smiling upon. :) I'd just like to add one DVD series every true Disney collector should have--and that's the Disney Treasures DVD collections that release every December. These are limited edition and some of them go out of print fast, but you can usually find relatively inexpensive used copies on eBay and other sources. They've covered a lot of Disney history territory on those sets that not every member of the family may love. Nevertheless, the ones covering the amazing Silly Symphonies (pre-"Snow White" years) and the individual character shorts collections (Complete Mickey, Donald, et al.) are must-haves for kids and adults alike.
