Gymboree is a line of children's clothing that has a great following. The clothing tends to be expensive, but is cute and well-made. The company comes out with several lines every year, some of which are more popular than others. You can buy Gymboree clothes online, a local store, or one of their outlet centers. Obviously selling Gymboree clothes on eBay will require an initial investment, but it can be lucrative in the end.

To make the most money from this endeavor, first apply for a Gymboree Visa card. You will automatically get a $10 certificate toward their merchandise, and will get 5% off every Gymboree purchase you make. Furthermore, you will periodically get a 1% bonus in the form of Gymboree gift cards. For example, make $1,000 worth of non-Gymboree purchases and receive a $10 gift card. In today's world where you can charge anything, these rewards can add up quickly. When you get a Gymboree Visa card, you will automatically start receiving special offers for percentages off merchandise. For instance, a three-day special over Memorial Day weekend offered 30% off of your entire purchase. They also have times during which they have flat-rate shipping. Try to take advantage of every discount you can.

Three to five times per year the company offers Gymbucks. For every $50 you spend, you earn 25 Gymbucks. At a later date, you can use these Gymbucks on any purchase over $50. So, you will initially spend $50, then another $25 and receive $25 worth of free merchandise. I never purchase clothing that is not on sale. Thursdays are the usually the days that start new promotions and lines of merchandise are marked down. Generally the newer lines will first go on sale to 20% off, then 40%, then finally 60%. I try to choose merchandise that offers the greatest percentage off. However, if there is a popular line, it might be worth it to invest in clothing that is only 20% off, because chances are it will not be available for long and it will have a greater resale value on eBay.

I know several people who do this. Great business idea.

I think you could make $500 a month, but you would have to have quite an initial investment. I generally shoot for making $10 profit on each article of clothing.

Thanks for a well-written and informative article. Just one question: When you say that selling Gymboree clothing can be "lucrative in the end," what exactly does that mean? For example, if one had the initial funding to invest in Gymboree items, would it be possible to make $500 per month doing this?

Yes, I've done it with Gap and Old Navy clothes too. I've not done too much with adult clothes, so not sure about Banana Republic. They key is the special promos for the Visa card holders... and I'm not sure the other companies have these benefit programs. ~Thanks!~
