During this year's NBA playoffs, the world watched in awe as Lebron James went soaring by his opponents. Now he is in the NBA finals and NBA executives can finally breathe a sign of relief and start counting the money. Lebron James is currently the biggest money maker for the NBA and every game he has played in the playoffs has had increased ratings for the NBA on television which bodes very well for the NBA. Had the NBA had the Pistons advance past the Cavaliers and gone to the finals, the NBA would've had a secret nightmare. The last time those two teams faced each other in the finals, the results were disastrous for the NBA; not because they are horrible basketball teams, but because they play great defense which makes for low scoring games.
In addition, both the Spurs and Pistons do not have a marquee superstar to draw fans to watch the game. Tim Duncan comes close to drawing fans but most people consider him very boring to watch despite being one of the best power forwards ever. The last time that the Spurs and Pistons met in the finals, the games on television were one of the lowest watched finals matches ever for the NBA. Fans didn't care about either team and there was no real superstar to watch.
Lebron James is what the NBA needed to revive ratings and bring fans back to the NBA. He is a true superstar who does not shy away from the media attention. In addition, fans tune in every game to watch Lebron James because you never know when you might be witnessing something special out of him.
Lebron James has the same effect of fans and the NBA as Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson had. The amazing performance that Lebron James put on in the conference finals against the Pistons was jaw dropping and fans will certainly tune in to watch if Lebron James can score against the league's best defenders in Bruce Bowen.
Lebron's jersey has risen to the top in NBA sales and the NBA could not be happier that the Cavaliers are in the finals. Even if the Cavaliers do not beat the Spurs in the finals, it doesn't matter. Lebron James is only twenty two years old which is amazing considering how good he is and how much better he can become since he is so young.
