This week Sarah Jessica Parker told Entertainment Tonight that a Sex and the City movie is in the works. Sex and the City was originally broadcast on HBO for six seasons, from 1998 until 2004. It can now be seen syndicated on TBS, WGN, and other local stations.

In the television hit, Parker starred as Carrie Bradshaw, a single pen wielding sex advice columnist living in New York City looking for love with her three best friends, who often had frank sexual discussions over lunch. The show also starred Kim Cattrall, as kinky Samantha Jones who once claimed to be a trisexual because she'd try anything once. Cynthia Nixon starred as Miranda Hobbes, a successful lawyer and later a single mother. And Kristen Davis starred as Charlotte York, an Episcopalian who converted to Judaism out of true love, only after a failed marriage to an impotent Adonis-like doctor played by Kyle McLaughlin. Sex and the City also set fashion trends for American society. Parker, her on screen girlfriends, and the show itself became a fashion icon.

In its six seasons "Sex and the City" was nominated for over fifty Emmy Awards, seven of which it won, and twenty-four Golden Globe Awards. Of the latter, it won eight..

Sex and the City was adapted from a book of the same name by Candice Bushnell. The show's story lines were partly based on Bushnell's own columns for the New York Observer, A film version was slated for production soon after the show's end, but according to a 2004 interview given by Parker's co-star Kim Cattrall on BBC's Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, ideas for both the movie and a seventh season were abandoned due to disagreements over the actresses' pay scales.

But the issues now seem to have been resolved. According to Hollywood.com, Sarah Jessica Parker, who became an executive producer of the show in its second season told Entertainment Tonight, "Somehow in my brain I think the timing is fortuitous because if we had done it years ago... we couldn't have done it now. I'm hopeful and very excited about it." She's not the only one.

I have heard about a movie version before, but it never panned out. I did enjoy the series though, so I hope it will get made before they all turn 50.

I didn't like the show. It just reminded me of cosmopolitan magazine, but in t.v.The women annoyed the heck out of me.Nice article though.

I can't wait! However, I wonder if it could ever be as good as the show was.
