If you are having a 4th of July party, or even just attending one, you may need some ideas for desserts or treats with the holiday theme. These desserts are all easy to make and the ingredients are all very inexpensive. Everyone will be glad that they came to your fabulous party!

Easy Flag Cake

So simple and so delicious!

Ingredients:
1 box of vanilla or white cake mix (or make cake mix from scratch, your choice)
1 tub of vanilla whipped topping
2 pints of strawberries
1 1/3 cups of blueberries

Bake cake according to box instructions in a greased 9 by 13 by 2 inch glass pan.

Allow cake to completely cool.

Slice one cup of strawberries, set aside. Halve the remaining strawberries, set aside.

BEFORE frosting the cake, place the one cup of sliced strawberries and one cup of the blueberries directly on top of the cake, covering it.

Frost the top of the cake with the tub of vanilla whipped topping.

Arrange the remaining halved strawberries and blueberries on the whipped topping to create a flag design. The blueberries will be the stars and the strawberries will be arranged as the stripes. (Arrange the blueberries in the upper left corner of the cake, as on the starred field of the flag, then use the strawberries to make the red stripes.)

Note: You can make a low fat version of the Easy Flag Cake if you use angel food cake and a fat free whipped topping.

Refrigerate until ready to serve.
