Before employing a nanny, you should consider some of these aspects: Plan the nanny’s job description. Once you have a rough job-description as per your requirements, then you should advertise the job vacancy. This can be done with a specialized agency which handles domestics or be done just as easily by yourself, given you have the time. From the number of applications received choose the potential nannies you would like to see further for an interview. You should plan and carry out interviews.
When interviewing a nanny for your child pay close attention to any child care certifications, emergency training and diplomas from higher learning institutions. High-qualified nannies can expect higher salary. So you should be realistic in their expectations. You should request proof of all certificates, training courses or diplomas.
The parents should sit down and speak with the nanny possibly over lunch. This gives you a chance to interview her about her prior training, work history and general background and knowledge.
Questions to consider in the interviewing process:
What is your basic knowledge of and views on child development?
What kind of recreational activities do you intend in involving the child in?
What type of knowledge or training do you have in nutrition and meal planning?
What are your discipline thoughts?
Would you be able to keep track of the child’s school requirements, doctor’s appointments, general hygiene, clothing and supply needs and daily schedules?
