42nd Annual Fourth of July Parade - Arlington, Texas

The Arlington 4th of July Association has organized the annual Independence Day Parade for the past forty years. Growing up, we always looked forward to going to the 4th of July Parade. The parade has drawn crowds from 5,000 to 70,000. Many different community organizations contribute to the average 150 entries in the largest 4th of July parade in Texas.

The theme of this years parade is "We the People". Each entry will be focused around that theme. There are several military color guards. Each of the city high schools enter their marching band, drill team (dance squad, for those who are only familiar with the military style) and cheerleaders. There are horses, unusual automobiles and classic cars. As for the floats, some entries are professionally built, while others are built by volunteers in community organizations. Of course, there is the mayor of Arlington, Dr. Robert Cluck, and many other dignitaries who will be riding in separate cars at the beginning of the route. You can see the parade for free, which makes it a must go to event for families in the area. Of course, those who live there get the most enjoyment from the parade, as they watch their friends and loved ones participate in this time honored tradition, but since Arlington is located in the hub of the D/FW area, tourists during that time will also appreciate the patriotic spirit that permeates the atmosphere.

There are several things to know before you go. The parade is scheduled to begin at 9:00am, but I would recommend getting there around 8:00am. The earlier you park and find your seat the better your experience will be. Lawn chairs are recommended, unless you like either sitting on concrete or standing for over two hours for the duration of the parade. You can bring coolers with things to drink and eat, but no alcohol. There are usually vendors selling cold drinks on the streets, so be sure to have some cash on you. There are also vendors selling souvenirs.
