My daughters and I started a Sunday school at our small church. We didn't have any money to purchase Sunday school supplies, so we just made our own curriculum. As a small church there wasn't enough money to purchase a Vacation bible school kit. These are kind of expensive and they don't include crafts and supplies that you need to have a successful bible school. We had to wait until another church donated their used kit. Fortunately we had enough donated to pull it off. The problem we had is that we didn't get our supplies until two days before the school started. This didn't give us much time to plan, and study for it. At that time we decided to start planning for the next year as soon as we finished.

The kit isn't available until almost the end of December, so this gave us a lot time to get pledges for the kit. We started with family, and went to friends, and asked for donations, and to my surprise we had it covered in one day. This was mainly because they didn't have to come up with the money right away. We also had a Tupperware party fund raiser which brought in some more money.

All year we bought what we could that went with the theme we had chosen. As time came nearer to the start of our school, we had purchased so many supplies, craft items, and other necessary items, that we were getting confused about what we actually needed. We also started running out of room to store the supplies. This is the best bible school we have ever had. The success of your bible school depends on how you plan. You don't have to spend a lot of time in the planning stage if a few people just get started as soon as possible. Also you can get it done without spending too much if you have some family and friends that are willing to help. Our church used to depend on stores for donations of food, and we didn't have to resort to this because we had enough money left over to do this ourselves.

I hope our story helps another small church to get this going on next year. We don't have to worry about this ever again. We are planning an even better bible school for next year. Good luck.

Good article....we usually design our own around a sports theme, because we are small, but built a gym first to accomodate the needs of the kids in the neighborhood...so it is easy to pull off a sports camp Bible School...still, it isn't always easyt to have enough inpute for all the creativity needed...and Bible applications...Great ideas....Thanks for sharing.
