Recently my family and I made the Luxury Inn in Santa Fe, New Mexico, our home for a night. We decided that after driving sixteen hours that we needed some sleep. We tried to find a room at a different motel, but the rooms were full because it was graduation weekend.

When we found out that the first motel did not have any vacancies, the woman at the front desk told us to try the Luxury Inn. We found a coupon in one of the traveler's discount guides, and decided to go ahead and give it a try.

Upon arriving at the Inn, we were informed that since it was graduation weekend, and because all but two of their rooms were taken, that they could not honor our coupon. No problem. We understood that it was their prerogative whether or not they honored the coupon, so we didn't argue. We decided to pay the full price, because we were exhausted.

The coupon we were not able to use listed the room for $45.95. After staying at the Luxury Inn, I believe that the coupon price should be the every day charge. Our room was clean, but it was not modern. There was the comfort of two double beds, a television, and air conditioner. The only perk we found was an iron tucked away in the closet.

Upon returning home, we decided that we would call the Luxury Inn for a price check. We were told that a stay for two adults and one teenager, in a non-smoking room, on a Saturday night, would cost $66.99 plus tax. That is $10.00 less that what we were charged.

I am not quite sure what $91.69 was supposed to get us, but I was at least hoping for a small coffee pot, or that a refrigerator was already in the room (one was available upon request). White towels would have been nice. Instead we had dingy, off-white towels that looked discolored from age. The walls needed a new paint-job, there were popcorn ceilings, and the sprinklers looked like they were either rusty or someone hadn't cleaned them in quite awhile. I am unsure if there was a continental breakfast available. Chances are we would not have eaten it if there had been. We did pass by one perk: a pool; but we were too exhausted to swim.
