Description:
The American Water Spaniel belongs to the medium dog breed family. It has a body of somewhat proportion. Everything seems to match with one another except for the dog's torso. It has more of an elongated torso to go with short-stubby legs, a circular small head, a long-thick tail, and a barrel-like chest.

Fur on this breed of dog is rather long and it's covered in waves. This breed is a water dog, as you may have already guessed, so it has both an undercoat and topcoat. The topcoat on this breed is normally a little greasy feeling (this helps repel water). The undercoat on this breed is made to protect the dog's skin from any water that made it through the topcoat. Undercoats are generally very tight knit and thick.

Height:
Height between the two genders will NOT vary in this breed of dog. Both the male and female will stand to be 15-18 inches (36-46 cm) tall. The males normally stand to be a little taller than the females, but the females and grow to be just as tall as the males.

Weight:
Weight between the two genders will NOT vary in this breed of dog. Both the female and male will usually weigh to be 25-45 pounds (11-20 kg.) It is not healthy for your dog to weigh 6 pounds below its lowest given weight, or weigh 7.5 pounds over its highest given weight.

Temperament:
American Water Spaniels are highly intelligent and very easy to train. They actually enjoy learning. This breed of dog is part of the hunting family and strives to hunt everything it can. It is very playful, curious, confident, energetic, and gentle. They are normally very kind with children of all ages, but, if scared, this breed tends to snap at a blinks notice. The creatures that this dog likes to hunt include: birds (ducks, quails, geese, swan, ect...) and other land mammals like (groundhogs, rabbits, possum, ect.) If you don't agree with hunting and killing THIS DOG IS NOT FOR YOU!! It is in their nature to kill anything they can on spot.

Life span:
This breed of dog averages 11-15 years of age.
