Are you a parent looking to buy your child a car to take to college? If you answered yes to this question you know how difficult it can be to find the right car. You will want to buy something that is safe, good on gas, and will not break your savings account. But your child wants to get something that looks good, and often times is not very economical or safe. If this sounds like your situation, there are a couple of good choices that you can make as a compromise. The Honda Civic is one of the best cars manufactured year in and year out. Regardless of if you buy new or used, the Civic is a car that both parents and students should be able to agree upon. They do not cost an extraordinary amount of money, and have been proven safe over the years. At the same time the Civic comes in both two and four door models, and offers good looks to its owners. This car is also great on gas, and is always reliable.
Built in the same mold as the Civic, the Toyota Corolla is also a good option for a college student. Again, it is a modestly priced car that offers good looks. It is great on gas, and has been rated high in safety ratings over the years.
If you are looking for a domestic car you will want to check out the offerings by Chevrolet and Pontiac. If you are looking for a used car the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire are good choices. They are no longer being made new, but you will be able to find a used unit for a great price. If you are thinking about a new domestic, check out the Chevrolet Cobalt. This is a new offering by Chevrolet, and it has been selling steadily since its inception.
If you are looking to buy used the most important thing to keep in mind is the number of miles on the car, and how reliable the car is. Reliability ratings can be found online. As a general rule of thumb, Japanese cars such as Honda and Toyota usually having better reliability ratings than American cars. Of course this is not always true, and it depends a lot on the condition of the car.
