In 2008, a new movie called "Burning Sands" will be coming out about the true story of five friends who are pledging into a fraternity. The theme of this upcoming movie will be whether this ship will be able to handle the torture and challenges outweighing the upcoming brotherhood. Depending on who you ask, the term crossing of the "burning sands" loosely means to pass a threshold or overcome obstacles with the assistance of those you are with who helped you through a trying period. "Burning Sands" will star actors such as Diana Ross' son, Evan Ross, comedian Brandon T. Jackson, Terrance Howard, and Samuel L. Jackson.

There have been other movies that showcased fictional Black Greek organizations for Hollywood's eyes. "School Daze" explored the issues within the Black community about light skin versus dark skin, a little bit of hazing, and Black Greek rivalries. The movie did not, however, speak about brotherhood or the positive things that BGOs do, such as donating to charities and volunteering for various political and social events to help the community. "Stomp the Yard" does explore brotherhood briefly, but it focuses more on a young, black man's troubles with the law while he's in college, family problems, and then of course, stepping. "Stomp the Yard" only had one scene in which hazing become a topic, and that was when Columbus Short's character, Deejay, struggled to sit down during a study meeting with Meghan Good's character, April. In the movie "Drumline," Jason Weaver's character, Ernest, is humorously seen shoving a burger and fries down as he scurries off to a pledge meeting with Kay Kay Psi, a fictional marching band fraternity. Viewers don't see much about Black Greek life in this one, besides a short stepping scene that turns into a kissing scene. I've been to many step shows, and never got aroused from watching someone step, but hey, the "Drumline" scene was hot anyway. I loved all three movies, but none of them really gave a well-rounded view of the whole Black Greek life experience. Even from a nonGreek perspective, I could catch on to that, so I know Black Greek fraternities and sororities do too.

To Alphabetakappazetazero Just because you were not accepted into a fraternity or sorority doesn't mean that you have to disrespect us. We are more than what you see or will ever know. It's not all about partying; some of the organizations actually help out in the community. Don't make such ignorant statements about things that you don't know about.

KKPSItilidie, ohhhh, I see what you're saying. Okay, oops, my fault. I'll ask Associated Content to make that correction. Sorry about that. Readers: Kappa Kappa Psi is an actual fraternity. KKPSItilidie corrected me on that in the comments area.

Now I started to delete this last comment but I'm hoping some frat member gets on here and curses you out for making that comment (under an alias--wow, you're so brave). Anyway, I'll give you one example of how a fraternity has been a leader in positive events. Did you know that the Boy Scouts of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and March of Dimes are partners with this particular frat? Truth of the matter is pretty much every African American Greek organization makes a commitment to charitable events. I've observed that just from college activities. Before you throw out strong words like that, you might want to check out what they do.

Why? You don't like frat movies. I love 'em! But yeah, I believe it will be because it's about the pledging process with a ship of guys and it's based on a true story.
